Saga Dawa Festival -2012/ 2013
The Tibetans is the only people in the whole world to celebrate the religious festival “Saga Dawa”. It is said that the Buddha was born on the 7th day of Saga Dawa month of Iron Monkey year, transcendent on the 15th day of Saga Dawa month of Wooden Horse year and died on the 15th day of Saga Dawa month of Iron Dragon year (all dates refer to Tibetan calendar). Therefore, the Tibetans see month of Saga Dawa as a blessed and lucky month. In this month, temples would hold series of religious activities. In the first half of the month, people will go on a vegetarian diet, make a pilgrimage to a temple on a famous mountain and worship Buddha. They light butter-oil lamps at home and before the statue of Buddha.
Trip Day to Day Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and drop to Hotel
Day 02: Tibet Visa Preparations minimum days group for sightseeing
Day 03: Drive to Zhangmu (115 kms / 05 hrs) Continue to Nyalam (3700meters). (38kms) (1 ½ hrs), Overnight at Guest House.
Day 04: Stay at Nyalam for the acclimatization.
Day 05: Drive to Saga (4600 meters). (232 kms / 07 hrs). Camp Overnight
Day 06: Drive to Paryang (4700 meters). (252 kms / 08 hrs). Camp Overnight.
Day 07: Drive to Chiu Gomba Lake (4500 meters (290 kms / 08 to 09 hrs). Camp Overnight.
Day 08: Chiu Gomba lakeside. Camping
Day 09: Saga dawa Day, Visit Darchen (4580m) and prepare for the trek. (40 kms / 01.5 hrs).
Day 10: Start trek. 14kms, 7 to 8hrs, (4800m)
Day 09: Trek. 24kms, 9 to 10hrs, (4680m)
Day 11: Complete the trek (15kms / 03 to 04 hrs).
Drive on to Horchu, Manasarovar Lake (4500m) (40kms, 1 ½ hrs). Camp Overnight.
Day 12: Spare day to explore surrounding of the Mansarowar Lake. Camp.
Day 13: Drive back to Paryang (4700m). (292 kms / 08 to 09 hrs). Camp.
Day 14: Drive back to Saga (4600m). (252 kms / 07 to 08 hrs). Camp.
Day 15: Drive back to Nyalam (3700m). (232 kms / 07 hrs). Guest House.
Day 16: Cross the border (Zhangmu) (38kms / 1 hr) and continue drive to Kathmandu (115 kms / 05 hrs).
Day 17: Final Departure
