Upper Mustang trek is one of the renowned place to it s inhabitant as Lo at the northern end of the Kali Gandaki. Mustang is the name of the district along the kali Gandaki from Tibetan border south to Ghasa and the capital of Mustang is Jomsom.
It is one ofthe-restricted area of Tibetan influence and is generally referred as upper Mustang. Southern region and the northern region are two distinct region of Upper Mustang where in southern region there is 5 villages inhabited by people related to the Manangis and in northern region the language, culture and traditions are almost purely Tibetan. The portion of Upper Mustang district north of Samar is Lo and its capital is Manthang and the king of Lo is the Lo Gyellu.
